UV400 Protection: What It Means and Why It Matters

The sun emits two types of ultraviolet radiation that reach your eyes every day: UVA and UVB. Over time, unprotected exposure to both is linked to a variety of optical health conditions. UV400 lenses block 100% of rays up to 400 nm, covering the full UVA and UVB spectrum.

At illesteva, every lens — from our ready-made pairings to fully custom tints — meets UV400 standard. Protection is built in, not optional.

How Lens Color Affects What You See

Lens tint changes more than how your frames look. Different colors filter light differently, which affects contrast, color accuracy, and how comfortable your eyes feel throughout the day.

GREY — The most neutral option. Reduces brightness evenly without shifting colors, so what you see looks true to life. Ideal for strong sun, city days, and all-day wear.

BROWN + TAUPE — Enhances depth and contrast by filtering blue light. Objects appear crisper, edges more defined. A natural choice for driving, variable light conditions, or anyone who spends time outdoors.

SAGE + OLIVE — Balances color accuracy with glare reduction, producing a softer, lower-fatigue view. Olive is especially well-suited for extended outdoor wear.

HONEY + SUNSET — Designed for low light. These tints boost contrast in flat, overcast conditions by filtering out haze — originally a pilot and shooter's lens, now a cold-weather and fog-day staple.

BLUE + PURPLE — Primarily aesthetic, with mild glare filtering. They shift color perception more than other tints, which gives them a distinct look but makes them less suited for activities requiring accurate color judgment.

PLUM — Best in snow, fog, or flat winter light, where they sharpen contrast and depth. Also the most visible fashion statement in the category.
